Western Cape hosts first Prisons Conference to be held outside of the UK

On Thursday 13th June Alpha Western Cape hosted the first Prison Conference held outside of the UK. We were extremely excited to hold it at Drakenstein Prison, Paarl. The area commissioner of Drakenstein, Mr Mattheyse opened the conference and the deputy commissioner for Pollsmoor, Mr Mketshane, gave the first keynote talk.

The 150+ delegates heard wonderful talks from our main stage speakers – Paul Cowley (from William Wilberforce Trust) and Jonathan and Jenny Clayton from Hope Prison Ministries. The day included 2 workshop sessions and representatives from the Andrew Murray Centre, Caring for Ex-Offenders, Beth Rapha House of Healing and Archie Jeftas all shared with us on the day. We were joined by a representative of each of the DCS areas in the Western Cape, and a number of different organisations that work in the transformation and rehabilitation of offenders. The day was completed by a wonderful time of worship and ministry.
